Durante la scorsa riunione con gli investitori, il presidente di Nintendo Satoru Iwata ha parlato a lungo della situazione del 3DS.

I risultati di vendita in Giappone sono ottimi, addirittura superiori alle aspettative della casa di Kyoto, con una media di unità distribuite (ai rivenditori quindi) di 83,000 a settimana. Ciò significa che il 55% delle console vendute in Giappone sono effettivamente 3DS.

La situazione è molto diversa in Europa e Stati Uniti, dove la percentuale scende al 20%.

La motivazione di una simile disparità, secondo Nintendo, sta nell'associazione degli occidentali tra videogame e console casalinga. Per il giapponese medio, è del tutto indifferente se un videogame è giocato su console portatite o su un televisore. Per europei e americani invece, i veri giochi devono essere giocati su console fissa, mentre le portatili vengono più viste come passatempi poco impegnativi.

Una dichiarazione un po' incoerente, considerata l'alta considerazione di Iwata nei confronti dei casual gamers.

Il presidente di Nintendo si è detto comunque molto ottimista riguardo l'immediato futuro, aspettandosi un rilancio delle vendite grazie all'uscita questa estate di 3DS XL e New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Iwata ha anche toccato il discorso smartphone, e la presunta concorrenza di tali device sul mercato degli handheld classici. A suo parere, tale concorrenza può esistere come può anche essere evitata. Il segreto sta nel fornire su console delle esperienze non replicabili su cellulari, diversificando l'offerta e marcando le differenze tra i due mercati.

Secondo me sono ciecati... la vera differenza sta che in giappone è uscito IL MONDO a livello di giochi (MH, KH, ecc.), da noi esce la roba col contagoccie (e pure si permettono di non localizzarla tipo KH!). E grazie che vendete di meno .-.
