Sono ancora un pò disorientato (cazzarola non riesco a installare manco le estensioni e la lingua italiana per firefox!!).

 

Nella guida ubuntu trovi spiegato come italianizzare tutto.

 

cioè pensare di cominciare daccapo per conoscere gli equivalenti di tutta quella miriade di programmi (vabbè non esageriamo) con cui avevo preso familiarità (ad esempio per il ripping dei dvd:decrypter virtualdub nero pgcedit etc...) è un pochino spossante.

 

Vero. Soprattutto con programmi più "complessi" il passaggio può risultare complesso. Tuttavia non sta scritto da nessuna parte che non lo sarebbe stato. Se avessi sempre usato Linux e fossi passato a Windows avresti avuto le medesime difficoltà, cioè a dire che non è il sistema operativo ad essere complesso ma il cambiamento di abitudini. Dato poi che non esistono criteri oggettivi per decretare una superiorità tecnologica (come sono buono) deve essere chiaro che ci sarà della fatica da fare (vedi Jack) che non sarà finalizzata ad avere il miglior prodotto del mercato: scegliere linux vuol dire scegliere di essere un utente diverso non perché si dispone del prodotto più cool o meglio funzionante. Se vuoi sapere il perché di linux leggiti qualcosa di Stallman o di Lessig e capirai il perché può valere la pena di fare questa scelta e questa fatica.

Certo, in cambio avrai anche un prodotto che non ha nulla da invidiare a nessuno, anzi!

 

E inoltre pensare di scrivere un testo con openoffice che poi nessuno dei miei amici può neanche aprire mi sembra una cavolata.

 

E lo è, perchè con open office puoi non solo leggere tutti i documenti di software proprietario (office) ma puoi anche salvare con quel formato (basta segliere dal menù a tendina di salvataggio del file: file--->salva con nome--->tipo di file), doc rtf etc. E, ad esempio, potrai anche convertire in pdf, cosa che con office è possibile solo disponendo della versione adobe con licenza che permette l'integrazione dei software.

Questi sono solo esempi. Scoprirai che molto software libero è compatibile con quello proprietario, e che ciò che manca è proprio il processo inverso (cioè sono i tuoi amici che non possono aprire i file salvati nel formato libero!)

 

Quindi anche se linux come dite voi è migliore, temo che vi rinuncerò presto per una questione di comodità con gli standard che su questo sistema sembra venire un pò meno rispetto al resto della comunità informatica. Non sò ditemi voi se sbaglio che magari faccio sempre in tempo a cambiare idea!

 

Linux non è migliore. E non c'è dubbio, non sei stupido né ti sbagli: cambiare alcune abitudini è scomodo, e talora sarà faticoso! Senza contare che, una volta nel mondo linux ,disporrai di tante di quelle risorse che spesso curiosità e spirito di avventura saranno gli unici limiti del tuo sistema, e sarai tu stesso ad incasinarti con le tue mani provando questo e quello.

La comodità, stanne pur certo, non è, nei primi tempi, di questo mondo.

Ma per ogni sforzo riceverai conoscenza, controllo e capacità. Attitudini che non sono ontologicamente iscritte nel software proprietario, chiuso per sua stessa definizione.

Insomma, diventare un consumatore "intelligente", che sceglie e a cui non viene imposto, che impara e non ripete meccanicamente, che pensa da solo e non è figlio di flag e caselle da spuntare, che non si deve guardare alle spalle ma è libero di guardare avanti, che non vive nel terrore dei codici multicifra e del software a scadenza. diventare tutto questo, insomma, farà sì che fatica e scomodità ti siano compagne.

A te la scelta: di certo non sarai stupido o fesso se opterai per altro. Sarai solo uno come tanti.

E' quando usi cdrecord da linea di comando con l'opzione --luke-use-the-force che ti vengono dibbi sulla sanità mentale dei programmatori nel mondo linux! :rotfl:

Devi avviare la versione gnome con xgl (o qualcosa di simile) quando fai il login (in basso ci sono le opzioni)

Ho installato beryl su ubuntu ma non so davvero come farlo partire. Mi mette tra le applicazioni Beryl settings manager. Smanetto un po' ma risultato Zero. Ho soltanto le finestre "mollacciose" che ho messo su "preferenze-effetti desktop" o qualcosa di simile.

dipende dagli effetti che vuoi mettere comunque quello che hai scelto su preferenze--effetti desktop e compiz disattivalo poi da console lanci beryl (basta scrivere beryl) se non ti da errori lo hai attivato adesso avvia beryl manger click destro sul diamante nella barra delle applicazioni click su configuratore beryl e da li attivi disattivi e configuri i plugin

Perchè io anche dopo aver messo quella cosa che parte con il login e dopo aver riavviato il pc mi da lo stesso problema.

Ti conviene installare Compiz, non Beryl. A quanto ho capito i team di sviluppo si sono riuniti, e presto Beryl sarà obsoleto.

 

Ma sei sicuro di non avere il cubo o le trasparenze? Mi pare strano.

si scaricati compiz-manager per scegliere e configurare i plugin se vuoi ci sono anche i plugin extra nei repository

Ho installato i driver da ubuntu con la procedura automatica e quando ho dato il comando da terminale per vedere se era attiva in ambito 3D la risposta e' stata YES

 

si alora e tutto giusto poi quando provi ci dici se e andato a buon fine

sudo apt-get install gnome-compiz-manager una volta installato va in sistema--->preferenze---->gl desktop e da la configuri i plugin

 

EDIT: scarica anche sudo apt-get install compiz-plugins

Dove si trova u firewall che si auto configuri e che naturalmente nn mi blocca la connessione?
